Created specifically for graphic designers, this three-hour workshop explores how to translate digitally designed artwork into a Risograph-ready workflow.
Using real Posy Press production examples, we’ll look at how artwork is constructed as separate color layers, how those layers interact when printed, and how to make intentional color and file-preparation decisions before sending a design to the Riso.
The workshop will focus primarily on vector-based approaches in Adobe Illustrator, including how we build and organize files for color separation. We’ll also take a high-level look at other digital separation approaches in Photoshop and tools such as Spectrolite, discussing when different methods may be useful depending on the artwork and desired result.
Throughout the class, we’ll compare different approaches to color, layering, and digital file preparation and look closely at finished Riso pieces to understand how production decisions shaped the final work.
Participants are encouraged to bring an existing digital design, illustration, photograph, or other artwork they’d like to explore through Riso. Class time will focus primarily on adapting, separating, and preparing that artwork for Riso printing.
No previous Risograph experience is required.
